Reflection

Something I found interesting while completing the action plans is that I was much less hard on myself while making the educator one. My personal action ended up highlighting what I need to do better or what I don’t do rather than the positives that I can do. I think this happened because there is a long list of small things that I do in the hope of making a difference. Because each action is so small, not going the extra mile when I know I’m capable makes it feel like I’m falling short. In contrast, I’m a new teacher and will have my first classroom in September. Although I taught about climate change and sustainability during practicum, the overall sustainability of the classroom wasn’t up to me because it was my coaching teacher’s classroom. I learned lots from her about how to expand students’ knowledge about global issues and how to save paper, but since it feels like I’m starting from square one, there isn’t anything I can make myself feel guilty about. Although “Keep Things Positive” was something I first added to my educator action plan, as I worked on my personal action plan it became apparent that it’s something I need to do in my personal life as well.
